BE OPEN is proud to announce that the display of the Samskara exhibition, part of the Made in…India programme, has been awarded with the prestigious NDTV Design and Architecture Award in the Commercial Interior Design Category.
The space has been created at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts by the worldwide renowned architect and educator Anupama Kundoo. Undulating shelves of native granite were installed to reconfigure the space and demarcate “rooms” to display 350 extraordinary items from India’s top designers similar to a high-end concept store.
Samskara was part of the Made in…India programme, the investigation on the virtuous relation between craft and design to research on possibilities for traditional techniques to be competitive in the global luxury market. Indian design community shows, with this award, the appreciation and interest towards the initiative. Elena Baturina comments: “This Award gives us the confirmation that our Made in… program has an important value in the communities we analyse; also, it shows we are moving in the right direction with our investigation. Researching on crafts is a very up-to-date subject and the relation with design is a worthwhile theme to investigate further.”
