This project was designed to explore the cultural issue of social media addiction and instant gratifications to convey how bad social media is effecting society, specifically, focusing on the psychological implications.

The project required in depth research about the issue within contemporary society. Aspects such as; what defines the issue, what causes it, what is the evidence of it, who are the target audience, what the artist’s personal experiences and relationship with the issue are, and how these messages can be communicated. Research into different artists, mediums, styles, colours and techniques were important to ascertain the best way of communicating the topic visually, as well as portraying the detrimental implications of the issue in an impactful and understandable way.

From the large body of works that were produced, 40 of the best outcomes were selected for presentation in order to most effectively represent the message being conveyed to the audience. In this instance, the message is communicating how bad social media addiction can be and the negative impact on mental health caused by the constant need for feedback and sense of instant gratification, which in turn determines self worth, as well as conveying the increasing hold this form of addiction is having on our modern society.
