Tuur van Balen and Revistal Cohen run the design firm Cohen Van Balen, a London based experimental practice that operates on the border of art and design. Inspired by designer species, composed wilderness and mechanical organs, they set out to create post human bodies, bespoke metabolisms, unnatural animals and poetic machines. Synthetic biology can give detailed insight into our metabolic processes and introduce new interactions with our body. Their work proposes these interactions as a new form of cooking, to tailor an emotional experience for a specific person at a specific time. This represents a new dimension of food design.
