Fred Murrell

Professor Emeritus and Design Ambassador
Fred Murrell has served as Chair of the Communications Design Department and is currently Professor, Strategy for Design Innovation, Masters of Arts at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in Denver, Colorado. Previously, he worked for Sapient, a global consultancy, as Vice President of Experience Design. Murrell has also held Director positions at Texas Instruments, Tenet Healthcare and Corning Incorporated. He has taught at Carnegie Mellon University, Alfred University, Rochester Institute of Technology, SUNY Fredonia, and was the Joyce C. Hall Distinguished Professor and Head of the school of Design at Kansas City Art Institute. He has served in Executive Board positions for AIGA, Design Management Institute, Cumulus Association of Art, Design & New Media and AIGA Educators Forum. Murrell currently serves on the Board of the Denver Art Museum’s Design Council, RMCAD Executive Board and is founder of his consulting firm Murrell Design. He has been recognized for his design and teaching in graphics, communications arts, print and AIGA Competitions. In 2011, Murrell was awarded the AIGA Fellows Award for work in the strategic collaborations of technology, design, art, digital media, business and education.
