From the sensory to the intuitive, the BE OPEN Forum explores human perception and how to design for it.

As BE OPEN's Founder, Russian businesswoman, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Elena Baturina, said “BE OPEN's year-long programme, which is focused on designing for the five senses, is about leading us closer to that mysterious sixth sense, intuition.  It's a journey into intuitive design through a synthesis of the sensory and technology, a fusion that could produce an enticingly infinite variety of sensations.“

The talks programme with a panel discussion on Thursday 20 September at London’s Hospital Club, held in collaboration with trends magazine WIRED UK.  WIRED Associate Editor Tom Cheshire will moderate a panel of design minds for BE OPEN TO THE SOUND OF THE FUTURE: ‘Sound Design’.

Panellists including special guest Tom Dixon will discuss how a better understanding of our sensory systems can help us design everything from household products to skyscrapers that can breathe, grow and 'think'.  The event is free and open to all with a performance by Sound Portal artist Jo Thomas to conclude.

A talk on the making of the Sound Portal by BE OPEN, Arup and the artists who have created the soundscapes.

BE OPEN explores the five traditional senses – sight, smell, taste, touch and sound – the starting point for research into the next realm, that of the sixth sense, or intuition.  Sixth sense design would represent the ultimate synthesis of human sensory perception and technological genius, offering an infinite variety of sensations that would overcome the perceived limitations of design today.
